Abalon has been underpinning structures in Calgary and the surrounding area since 1987. Working hand in hand with an engineering company to design and inspect all underpinning projects you can rest assured the job is done with the top of the line equipment, highly trained crews and backed with an engineered design.

Underpinning is usually required when a structure is settling; When the foundation can no longer support the structure. Foundation underpinning will repair and strengthen the structure by adding additional vertical support, that extends deep into the ground. Underpinning can be as simple as a concrete pad under a footing or as complex as helical pile that goes under an existing foundation footing. Abalon installs Almita Piles, proudly produced right here in Alberta, specifically for our soil conditions. Almita Piles are Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) approved, and Abalon ensures that if a permit is required for any underpinning job that we will have a contractor that is CCMC approved as well. Our crews are trained by the manufacturer, and provide top of the line service that cannot be matched.

My home is built on very rocky soils. My engineer advised I need piles. Can you install piles in this type of soil?

Yes. We use Helical Piles, which are built to go through rocky soils. Our Edmonton and Winnipeg offices use friction piles. The friction pile machine was developed by Abalon in the 1970’s.

What experience does Abalon have to do this type of work?

Let’s say we wrote the book. Abalon, along with the University of Manitoba published a book teaching young engineers how piles work and the correct procedure for installation.
